Created while studying part-time at a classical atelier in Minneapolis, the work reflects the patience and discipline required in traditional classical realism training—carefully building values, studying form, and painting directly from life.

Working in grayscale allowed me to focus completely on the structure of the sculpture: the sharp planes of the face, the dramatic contrast of light and shadow, and the expressive intensity that makes Michelangelo’s David such an iconic work of art.

The painting captures the timeless presence of the sculpture while remaining unmistakably a painting—brushwork, surface texture, and subtle tonal transitions bring a sense of life and atmosphere to the piece.
